1. What are cookies?

In other words, these are cookies essential for the operation of the site or necessary to perform activities requested by the user.

Also considered equivalent to technical cookies, and therefore not requiring explicit consent, are “analytics cookies” when used directly by the website operator (“first-party cookies”) to collect aggregated information about the number of users and how they visit the website—or, when provided by third parties, if tools are implemented to reduce their identifying power (for example, by masking significant portions of the IP address).

Conversely, “profiling cookies”—those aimed at creating user profiles and used to send advertising messages consistent with the user’s expressed preferences during online browsing—require the user’s prior consent.
